New Year’s Eve is almost here! Can you believe it? Whether you plan on going out on the town or staying at home with the kids, this DIY New Year’s Eve Mini Top Hat is the perfect way to make your night a little more festive!
Now that we have kids at home, New Year’s Eve looks drastically different than it did many years ago. Lately, NYE usually involves putting the kids to bed early and watching a movie on the couch before falling asleep before it hits midnight. Even if your NYE plans look lame like mine often do, you can still do a few fun things to make your night at home a little more festive!
Don’t miss these DIY Party Ideas:
These mini top hat headbands are so adorable. Both kids and adults will love wearing them. Make one to wear even if you are going out or hosting a party! Either way, these tiny top hats are sure to be a big hit. And the best part is that you can make almost the entire thing out of Duck Tape!
Here’s what you will need for this project:
- Duck Tape, Duck Mirror®
- Black Duck Tape
- Scissors
- Paper Towel Roll
- Thumbtack
- Floral Wire
- Headband
- Utility Knife
Using your utility knife, you will need to cut your paper towel roll to measure about 3 inches.
Next, carefully remove the round label from the Duck Tape packaging. Cover both the front and the back of the circle with Duck Tape and trim off any excess.
Poke 2 holes in the center of the circle using a thumbtack and thread a 2 inch piece of floral wire through the holes. This will be the brim of your top hat.
Next, make a piece of Duck Tape “fabric” by taping together strips of tape, front and back to form a square. Lay the paper towel roll onto the Duck Tape and trace around it. Cut out the circle.
Place the toilet paper roll onto the center of the larger circle, making sure the floral wire tales are on the underneath side of the circle. Place pieces of tape on the inside of the paper towel roll to attach.
Next, place some strips of tape across the smaller circle. Cut slits in the portion of the tape that overhang. Attach the circle to the top of the paper towel roll by criss crossing the cut tape onto the sides of the paper towel roll. Add as many strips of tape across the top of the circle as needed.
Cover the rest of the paper towel roll in duck tape. Now you should have a basic top hat!
Add shapes in contrasting Duck Tape colors to the top hat.
Lastly, attach it to a headband by wrapping the wire around the side of a headband. Add a few pieces of Duck Tape to make sure it’s secure.
And your mini top hat is ready to wear this New Year’s Eve! Any little girl would love wearing this DIY New Year’s Eve Top Hat! No matter what you create for New Year’s Eve, the possibilities are endless. I can’t wait to try Duck Texture® for my next project!
