DIY Tutorial: Lavender Favors
Hi everyone,
This is Natascha from Ann-Kay Design, and today I am going to show you how to make beautiful lavender favors from vintage handkerchiefs. They are super quick and easy to make; no sewing or gluing required.
You will need:
- Vintage handkerchiefs
- Rubber bands
- Dried lavender
- Ribbon
If you don’t have enough handkerchiefs, simply cut patterned cotton fabrics into squares of approx. 10×10 inch.
At first, I recommend to wash the hankies by hand, let them dry and then iron them carefully. This is not a necessary step, but looks so much prettier.
1. Spread a hankie in front of you and put a handful of lavender into the center.
2. Lift up two opposite corners and hold them tight with one hand, then do the same with the remaining two corners.
3. You are now left with four open “curves.” Pull the center of each curve toward your hand, and keep holding your little pouch.
4. Now wrap a rubber band around the hankie, right next to your holding hand. Twist it as many times as possible, to make sure the pouch is closed tightly.
5. If necessary, unfold the seams/ edges carefully to create the look of a blooming flower.
6. As a last step, cover the rubber band with ribbon and tie a bow.
Now repeat steps 1-6 with as many handkerchiefs you want or need for your party or wedding.
To display the lavender sachets, simply line one or more baskets with pretty fabrics or handkerchiefs.
And that’s it! I hope you liked my tutorial, and I’m looking forward to sharing many more ideas with you in the future here at Pretty My Party! Also, be sure to check out my Etsy shop. I will be offering 10% off to all Pretty Party Party fans until June 30, 2013 with coupon code PRETTY10.
Hello!
My mother did it for my cousin’s first birthday, here in Brazil. But, to make then more fluffy, she put some cotton inside. The essence lasts longer!
