Edgy Fourth of July Backyard Bash
This Edgy Fourth of July Backyard Bash was held at a country house in St. Clair, Missouri. The red, white and blue barbecue included girlfriends, guy friends, and family of all ages. What better way to spend Independence Day than sprawling out on a cozy striped blanket and throw pillows, with a vintage Coke bottle in your hand and hanging out poolside with your best friends before the fireworks show starts?! We couldn’t think of a better way to enjoy the holiday!
Event styling and photography were by 20 Something, who did most of their shopping at Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx, Target, Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart.
We designed Springsteen-inspired custom invites to set the tone and mixed in some hand-lettered chalkboard signs next to our relaxed red, white and blue lounge area (we had to incorporate Lana Del Rey’s “National Anthem” lyrics!).
Their favorite part … The table setting! For that, they gathered a mix of modern elements like the striped placemats and added in a vintage touch with the blue floral plates and Coke glasses.
For this shoot, they featured fun drinks! The bash called for a summer staple: bottled Coca Cola. They also served a signature All-American Cocktail adorned with strawberries and blueberries. They found some thick red and white striped straws and used black and white Washi tape to create mini flags on them.
How did they beat the heat? Bomb pops, of course! Who doesn’t love them?!
The pool served as the main activity along with the chic comfy lounge area. They wanted to keep the focus on classic, All-American elements with a touch of 70s edge – straying away from the traditional cutesy red, white and blue party decor and adding in a bit of grunge instead. They look like they had an absolute blast with this shoot, capturing the laid-back and carefree feeling of a 4th of July backyard celebration!
