Mary Poppins Birthday Party Ideas
I love seeing an old classic like Mary Poppins turned into a magical party. Take note, because the Mary Poppins Birthday Party Ideas in this feature are supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
“Kinley is a precious little girl – so joyful, smart, sweet and loving, funny, goofy, bubbly and completely girly! She loves singing and dancing, princesses, castles and all things Disney. She loves taking care of her dolls, drawing and having tea, and playing with her brother and sister! I always start by thinking of what the birthday boy/girl (in this case, girl) loves, and she loves Mary Poppins – acting out It’s A Jolly Holiday and Step in Time, so I knew this had to be a Mary Poppins party”, mom said.
Kinley’s 3rd birthday party, inspired by the movie Mary Poppins, was held at the Timuquana Country Club. Twelve little friends and their moms were in attendance to celebrate Kinley turning 3!
Some highlights of the day included:
- The carousel dessert table
- The actual carousel horse! What a perfect photo opp!
- A silhouette artist who did individual silhouettes for each guest
- The tea set favors – individual glass tea set in a pink leather suitcase for each little lady
Kinley looked beautiful in her red and white Jolly Holiday dress, while her brother wore Bert’s colorful striped shirt with a blue bow tie and socks. He also wore the boaters hats and had a cane to complete the outfit! Her sister wore a penguin outfit to tie in the penguin from the movie. Mom had a custom skirt made with the silhouette of Mary Poppins and the London skyline in the pattern.
The party featured lots of pastels – pink, lavender, teal and blue. Girly in every way, the carousel dessert table was a showstopper!
For the desserts there was a three-tier horse carousel birthday cake, penguin cake pops, pastel cake pops with gold dust on top, swirl colored cookies, cupcakes with fondant penguins on top, cupcakes with paper carousel horses on top, marshmallow pops made to look like chimney sweeps put on gray swirly straws, “tuppence” – gold chocolate covered coins, swirl lollipops, miniature candy apples and miniature cupcakes in lemon, lavender, strawberry, vanilla and mint.
The carousel dessert table was completely DIY. They used pvc pipes that they painted gold, covering an umbrella table with tablecloths, tulle and silk flowers, and a sauna tube they made pink for the center. They had it as the center focal point as the guests walked in. Mom had a vision that her husband and “Nama” were able to make come to life and it looked even better than they had imagined. They also took a lace parasol and glued silk flowers to it to make a beautiful decoration and prop for photos.
Adorable and colorful vintage suitcases were used on the dessert table as stands to hold various desserts. The pink carousel horse cupcakes looked perfect in the white carousel cupcake stand.
A spoonful of sugar is all you need for a birthday celebration, right?! The DIY cupcake toppers were added to teal cupcakes on pretty vintage stands.
We can’t forget about the adorable penguin details! Chocolate cupcakes topped with amazing penguins looked too good to eat!
In addition to the dessert table, a candy bar was added for guests to enjoy.
“I loved the heart-shaped cookies that hung from the tea cups. I saw that somewhere and really thought it would look sweet and was something to make the girls feel special as soon as they sat down. I had spoons engraved on the face to say “spoonful of sugar,” I put little pink ribbons on each one and had them in front of each mom’s tea cup for sampling the different flavored sugar cubes,” mom said.
Vintage pink drinks with Mary Poppins inspired labels were topped off with supercalifragilisticexpialidocious straw flags.
Guests were treated to a formal tea with scones with clotted cream and preserves, assorted tea sandwiches, choices of real tea and flavored sugar cubes, and strawberry milk and apple juice in place of tea for the kids.
“The table set up was important to me. I wanted it to be user-friendly, but dainty and pretty! I cut small white rose buds to set at each tea cup as well. The china was all graciously loaned to me by my very close friend. They were her grandmother’s antique china and tea cup sets. I also used some of Kinley’s Nama’s tea pots and tea sets. It was fun to have a variety and loved using actual china. I had tea cup lollipops sitting at each saucer as well, so the girls could have something as soon as they sat down. I brought in white chairs and “Nama” made chair backs using fabric. I really felt like that made the room pop when you walked in,” mom said.
Champagne in pink sugar rimmed glasses were on hand for the ladies when they walked in and a small pink cake with a hand cut Mary Poppins skyline silhouette topper was also on display.
Little guests received a stuffed Mary Poppins penguin and their choice of candy – large swirl lollipops, miniature candy apples and marshmallow swirl lollipops.
Other favors included little tea cup straw cups, porcelain tea sets in pink leather luggage cases, hand cut silhouettes done at the party, and paper miniature hat boxes with a personalized carousel horse on top.
“Kinley’s “Nama,” made “wands” for each little girl that hung on the back of their chairs tied to the chair cover backs. Once the tea was done and the girls were done playing dress up and seeing the Mary Poppins movie, we took the girls outside to run around with them. It was so adorable to watch the girls have so much fun running around and waving their wands. We had Mary Poppins playing on a huge screen in the room. There was also a dress up corner with Mary Poppins‘ carpet bag filled with fun shoes, jewelry and all things dress up for the little girls,” mom said.
